Come join the Golden Gate Symphony Orchestra & Chorus this Season! Under the direction of our Maestro, Urs Leonhardt Steiner, the GGSOC is planning an exciting season including Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 in November, our annual Sing it Yourself Messiah in December, a special program of Music from the Holocaust in March, and a season finale featuring Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in June including the opportunity to perform B-9 in Switzerland.
The GGSOC orchestra is comprised of 40-50 amateur and professional musicians who rehearse weekly on Thursday nights from 7-10 PM at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in San Francisco, and perform several concerts from fall through early summer. We are fortunate also to have our own 50+ member chorus which rehearses and performs regularly with the orchestra.
We are holding auditions on Thursday, September 8th, from 6:30-9:30 pm at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in San Francisco. The auditions will be relaxed and informal. We are asking players to present one or two excerpts or pieces of their choice which demonstrate both lyric/melodic and technical ability. The audition should take about 10-15 minutes with a chance to talk with Maestro Steiner and our Concertmaster, Loretta Taylor, to find out more about the GGSOC.
Strings especially are needed. Interested musicians should contact our "Ringmaster", Susan, at [email protected] to schedule an audition time.
