The Women's Antique Vocal Ensemble (WAVE) was founded in 1999 and consists of women who are dedicated to promoting and performing music of the Medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque periods. From its inception, WAVE's mission has been to perform in as authentic and skilled a manner as possible, while always striving
to communicate the heart and soul of this incredibly rich musical heritage. WAVE has performed concerts in the greater San Francisco Bay area as well as public service concerts and outreach programs for those in need such as hospital, senior citizens, AIDS research, the inmates at Santa Rita Jail, and concerts to benefit
the restoration of California missions. Members of WAVE give of their talent to support individuals and communities as well as engender an appreciation of early music through their performances.
Outgoing director Cindy Beitmen founded and built up the ensemble from 1999 through 2017. Upon her retirement from the group, co-directors Shira Kammen and Phoebe Rosquist were appointed to carry on the group's leadership. WAVE has a wonderful collegiality, a great work ethic, and a lovely sound that we are hoping to augment with a few incoming voices. Rehearsals focus on liberating the singers' vocal production, and on refinement of understanding and expression of the music and texts.
