Garrick Ohlsson's fingers will be flying at the Disney Family Museum in the Presidio on Wed., May 18 when he headlines San Francisco Classical Voice’s 3rd Annual Donor Appreciation Event. Ohlsson will perform Enrique Granados’ monumentally challenging masterpiece Goyescas, composed in 1911 in homage to the inimitable work of his Spanish compatriot, painter Francisco Goya.
Goyescas is one of the great works for solo piano but it is rarely performed live, in part because so few pianists can manage its 50 minutes of ferocious virtuosity. Ohlsson, a Grammy Winner in 2008, is a San Francisco resident and an SFCV donor. He is offering an exclusive, intimate performance for supporters of SFCV.
SFCV relies on generous contributions from our community of readers and web visitors. Your support allows SFCV to provide award-winning content, including previews, reviews, artist spotlights, feature stories, and in-depth news. Because of the loyalty of a strong base of supporters, SFCV has been able to grow, reaching more han 30,000 unique visitors each month, and has assumed a leadership role in developing new audiences for the many ensembles and presenting organizations in the region. We now have added a highly-praised Kids and Family section, which includes a music teacher finder, and also high quality, self-produced audio and video content. It now truly is the go-to place for classical music.
Each May, SFCV celebrates spring by thanking our donors who have given $1,000 or more during the year with a special party. It's always pretty swank and special, and this year is no exception, with the beautiful Presidio as a backdrop and a private admission to the Disney Family Museum.
SFCV's event begins at 5:45, when guests (potentially you, dear reader) will be served hors d’oeuvres created by chef Wolfgang Puck along with wines crafted by Foggy Bridge Winery. Ohlsson's 50-minute recital begins at 6:30 sharp. Afterwards, SFCV's $1K Club donors will have time to explore the Disney Family Museum galleries, and savor more of Wolfgang Puck's food. The edibles will include a variety of seafood (lobster, shrimp, oysters, the works) a carving station, and fancy salads and pastas. As guests depart, they will be offered their choice of assorted miniature cupcakes and freshly brewed coffee. They will also receive a complimentary CD by Garrick Ohlsson.
For those wishing to attend this event, a qualifying ($1,000 or greater) contribution to SFCV may be made by clicking on the above link. For more information about how to support San Francisco Classical Voice, please e-mail Executive Director John Robinson at [email protected].
