Over at the Jewish Museum, a new exhibit on Gertrude Stein is in full swing. On Thursday the Museum hosts the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony and their special guest, New York Times music critic Anthony Tommasini in a program about the collaborations between Stein and composer Virgil Thomson. Tommasini will talk about the Stein-Thomson connection and play some of Thomson's “musical portraits.”
The orchestra will play a selection of the composer's chamber music and, with tenor Brian Thorsett, excerpts from Eric Satie's monodrama Socrate. Don't overlook the rare opportunity to have an interactive look at the hugely entertaining and influential Stein, and her gifted musician-friend.
