For the second week of Music in the Vineyards, up in Napa, the Pacifica Quartet takes over for the Borromeo. In this concert, Pacifica players mix it up with everyone else at the festival: the glorious Mendelssohn Quintet (Op. 87) that anchors this program, for example, is played with only two Pacifica members, Sibbi Bernhardsson and Masumi Per Rostad, (and three other excellent players: violinist Ara Gregorian, violist Jonathan Vinocour, and cellist Robert DeMaine).
The other featured composer, along with Mendelssohn, is Judd Greenstein, still-young but highly regarded and featured in an SFCV Top Ten list a few weeks ago. I’ve never heard his Four on the Floor but I wouldn’t be shocked if that were the piece that made a trip to Silverado Vineyards worthwhile.
