Cantare con Vivo’s May concert is traditionally an uplifting, fun affair, which goes by the title “How Can I Keep From Singing?” This year the choral group opens with the fine American composer Howard Hanson’s Song of Democracy, a setting of Walt Whitman poetry.
The group will also offer Shawn Kirchner’s bluegrass Heavenly Home: Three American Songs. Along with music of favorite choral composers, the 120-strong chorus brings it home with arrangements of James Taylor songs and spirituals.
