Guitarist David Russell was born in Glasgow, but took up his instrument when his family moved to Minorca when he was five years old.
Since then, he's walked away with every competition he ever entered (including the Julian Bream competition twice), built a major international career, recorded 26 albums, one of which (2005's Aire Latino) won a Grammy, and energized a huge fan base with his nearly perfect technique and musicality.
He also has founded an NGO that focuses on measures to provide clean drinking water around the world, and also founds schools in underdeveloped areas. Russell is one of those guys that fellow professionals go out of their way to hear, and you'd expect his San Francisco Performances show this weekend to be pretty special.
