The Symphony’s annual family concerts on the occasion of the Lunar New Year are not only colorful celebrations of Chinese culture and music, they also present first-class talent. It was at one of these concerts that Yuja Wang, now a pianist superstar, made her San Franciso debut. This year, conductor Carolyn Kuan and violinist Siqing Lu headline performance of the famed Butterfly Lovers Concerto, Melody of China performs on traditional instruments, the Crystal Children’s Choir offers Jasmine Flower by Gang Situ, among other program items. The concert is followed by a reception — Davies Symphony Hall’s lobbies on all levels will be filled with lion dancers, fortune tellers, a prize-filled raffle, Chinese desserts, and traditional Chinese music.
