To the rest of America, San Francisco is the home of gay rights, and the city has done a lot to burnish that image. But the S.F. Bay Area is also a music capital, so it makes sense that the Annual Pride Celebration should make a place for a number of the city's pioneering GLBTQ music ensembles.
On Friday, five of these amateur groups, long-time stalwarts of the local music scene, come together for the 33rd Annual Pride Concert. Performing are the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony, the Lesbian/Gay Chorus of San Francisco, the S.F. Lesbian/Gay Freedom Band, the Golden Gate Men's Chorus, and the S.F Gay Men's Chorus Ambassadors.
This year the celebration includes the lifting of the “Don't Ask Don't Tell” policy, but the musical emphasis, as always, is on “fabulousness” — flashy, roof-raising fun in a variety of musical styles.
