Segerstrom Center for the Arts has announced an enticing selection of chamber music, jazz, and cabaret performances for the 2024–2025 season. The concerts, a boon for Orange County music lovers, will be held in the intimate Samueli Theater.
Returning artists on the chamber series include the Esmé Quartet (Oct. 24), the Fauré Quartett (Nov. 6), and the Takács Quartet with cellist David Requiro (Feb. 14, 2025). The Calidore String Quartet also returns (March 6, 2025) and performs a specially commissioned world premiere by Han Lash.
Two period ensembles visit in the spring. Théotime Langlois de Swarte leads Les Arts Florissants (March 23, 2025), while Jordi Savall and Hespèrion XXI perform “Music of Fire and Love” (April 16, 2025). And in what promises to be an auspicious chamber series debut, the piano duo of Matthew Aucoin and Conor Hanick perform a world premiere inspired by the poetry of Ben Lerner (Nov. 14).
In a propitious coincidence, the jazz series celebrates two 80th birthdays, those of pianist Monty Alexander (Nov. 16) and singer-songwriter Ivan Lins, the latter with Pacific Jazz Orchestra (Jan. 17, 2025). Grammy Award-winning all-male a cappella group Take 6 brings holiday cheer (Dec. 15). Other acclaimed jazz acts on the calendar include the Sean Mason Quintet (Oct. 5) and Emmet Cohen Trio (April 5, 2025).
The cabaret series include Broadway stars Laura Bell Bundy and Erick McCormack (Oct. 17–19), Jason Robert Brown and Anika Noni Rose (Nov. 7–9), Kerry Butler (Jan. 23–25, 2025), Claybourne Elder (Feb. 20–22, 2025), and Cheyenne Jackson (April 10–12, 2025). Spamilton: An American Parody closes the year (May 15–17, 2025).
