Regina Resnik, who died last week at age 90, started her career as a soprano and between 1946 and 1982 sang many major roles in the War Memorial, including Leonore (Fidelio), Donna Anna, Donna Elvira, La Gioconda, Gutrune, and Mistress Ford. Following a 15-year absence, she returned as a mezzo, singing Amneris, Klytemnestra, Madame de Croissy, Fricka, the Old Countess, Carmen, Azucena, and the title role in The Visit of the Old Lady.
