Appealing directly to fans, opera singer Plácido Domingo announced, via a Facebook post on Sunday, March 22, that he had tested positive for the coronavirus. He wrote that he had “experienced fever and cough symptoms” and that he and his family were self-isolating, though he added: “Currently we are all in good health.”
This news comes less than two weeks after the Los Angeles Opera published its summary of an investigation into sexual harassment allegations against Domingo. The 79-year-old opera star had been with the company since its founding in 1986; amid accusations of sexual misconduct, he resigned as general director in October 2019.
In recent weeks, Domingo has taken to social media to respond to allegations, as well as announce canceled performances. On Sunday, he stressed that it was his “moral duty” to share that he had tested positive for the virus, and he urged everyone reading to follow healthy habits in stopping its spread.
