Oldest Choir Looking for New Director

San Francisco Bach Choir, founded in 1937, is believed to be the oldest continually performing choir in the western United States. The current Artistic Director Corey Jamason hasn't been around that long, but he served a good stretch of time, and he is stepping down as of next March.

The choir is focusing its search for his successor within the Bay Area and will announce the final selection in May of next year.

SFBC is an auditioned volunteer choir specializing in late Renaissance and early baroque music, particularly of J.S. Bach, his contemporaries, and predecessors. The choir offers programs each year in October, December, March, and May. The December concert, featuring seasonal Renaissance and baroque works including antiphonal pieces for multiple choirs staged by candlelight.

In Dulci Jubilo, on Dec. 7 and 8, in the Calvary Presbyterian Church, featuring violinist Elizabeth Blumenstock, will offer works by Byrd, Praetorius, Hassler, Gallus and others.
