Merola's 2013 summer season includes Britten's The Rape of Lucretia and Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro in venues new to the program: 600-seat Everett Middle School Auditorium and 1,700-seat Nourse Theater, in addition to Yerba Buena Gardens and the War Memorial Opera House.
Changes have been necessitated by the closure of Herbst Theatre for renovation; Everett has 200 more seats than the previously used Cowell Theater.
- The Rape of Lucretia opens the season on July 11 and 13 in Everett, directed by Peter Kazaras and conducted by Mark Morash.
- The annual Schwabacher Summer Concert will also take place in the school, on July 18, and repeated in a free performance at Yerba Buena on July 20.
- The Mozart opera is scheduled for Aug. 1 and 3, in Everett Auditorium, directed by Robin Guarino and conducted by Xian Zhang.
- John DeMain conducts the annual Merola Grand Finale on Aug. 17 on the main stage of War Memorial Opera House.
- Master classes and special events throughout the season will take place in Nourse.
