The Oakland Museum of California hosts its 23rd-annual Days of the Dead Community Celebration throughout the museum facility and gardens on Sunday, October 22 from noon until 4:30 p.m. The activities are held in conjunction with the museum’s Metamorphosis & Migration: Days of the Dead exhibition, which features artworks inspired by the life cycle of the monarch butterfly.
Activities include life music and dance on two stages, calvera face-painting, tortilla-making demonstrations, a traditional-style Mercado selling handmade arts and crafts, and more. Along 10th Street, local gourmet Off-the-Grid food trucks will offer a range of tasty treats.
Music and dance highlights include Ballet Folklorico Mexicano de Carlos Moreno, Mariachi Los Halcones de Oakland, Grupo de Arpa Barajas, Los Compas y La Familea Peña-Govea, and Danza Huehueteol.
