Agata Sorotokin, 17, winner of last year’s SFS Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition, will be the soloist in the season's first Youth Orchestra concert on Nov. 23, in Prokofiev's notoriously difficult Piano Concerto No. 3.

The concert, conducted by Donato Cabrera, also includes Glinka's Overture to Ruslan and Ludmila and Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique.

Sorotokin has been the SFSYO's pianist since 2012. Last year she was asked to play the organ part of Strauss’s Also Sprach Zarathustra. She has won other such competitions and soloed with El Camino Youth Symphony.

Her participation in Music@Menlo training programs led to festival co-founders Wu Han and David Finckel including Sorotokin in last year's new chamber program at the Aspen Music Festival, where she performed the Shostakovich Trio in E Minor, with violinist Angela Wee and cellist Julia Rosenbaum.
