Cal Performances Director Matias Tarnopolsky announced today the appointment of Rob Bailis as Director of External Relations and Artistic Initiatives, effective June 3. Bailis, a professional clarinetist with extensive experience in arts organization management, served for eight years as Director of ODC Theater, from 2003 to 2011.
Previously, Bailis worked with Z Space, Pacific Mozart Ensemble, Chamber Music America, Dance USA, the MAP Fund, and the New England Foundation for the Arts. The Cal Performances position, which involves "direction and leadership support in fundraising with oversight to the marketing, communications and education programs," is a first for the organization. He is also expected to participate in Tarnopolsky's work of creating programs for the season.
"As a Bay Area native," Bailis said, "it is very meaningful to me to continue my service to the performing arts in the community that I call home, and doing so at UC Berkeley is very exciting."
During his years with ODC, Bailis led the effort to complete the $10 million capital campaign funding the building of the new theater.
