Getting the Most out of Your SFCV Visit
Dolby Labs was the elegant setting for the Oct. 6 premiere screening of two new films produced by San Francisco Classical Voice for donors and supporters. Arriving guests, including SFCV co-founders Gordon Getty and Bob Commanday, enjoyed dramatic views of the San Francisco skyline, hors d’oeuvres, and fine wines donated by Dyer Vineyards and Long Vineyards.
Dolby Labs, which is best known for its state-of-the-art surround-sound technology familiar from Hollywood feature films, donated the use of its cutting edge theater and projection equipment, ensuring that the new films received a stylish debut.
The main feature film, SFCV: A Model for the Future of Arts Media, features interviews with leaders in the music scene of the Bay Area, including Nicholas McGegan, music director of Philharmonia Baroque; Nan Keeton, director of marketing of the San Francisco Symphony; Mary Falvey, president of the SFCV Board; Doris Fukawa, executive director of the Crowden Music Center; John and Paula Gambs, co-founders of the New Century Chamber Orchestra; and Bill Lueth of Classical KDFC, among others. The film explores the value that SFCV brings to different parts of our local, regional, and international music community, addressing how people use SFCV and how SFCV is helping to connect arts groups to the audience of the present and the future.
The other previewed film, Getting the Most out of Your SFCV Visit, was aimed at an audience of new visitors to SFCV.org, delivering a virtual tour of the powerful tools and information resources available on the site. With a sound track of orchestral music entitled Tiefer und Tiefer (Deeper and Deeper), written by Gordon Getty, conducted by Sir Neville Marriner, and performed by the Academy of St. Martin in the Field (available on Pentatone Classics), the four-minute film takes visitors inside the website, introducing them to the sortable Concert Calendar, the comprehensive music teacher database, the Tips and Advice section for young musicians and their parents, videos, and podcasts, and the other rich content that SFCV publishes every week on the site.
Following the debut screenings, SFCV Board President Mary Falvey convened a panel to discuss the state of the arts world and the many ways in which SFCV is playing an indispensable role in audience building and community engagement. The panel included arts marketing expert Alan Brown of Wolf Brown; composer David Conte of the San Francisco Conservatory; Doris Fukawa of the Crowden Music Center; and John Robinson, executive director of SFCV.
