Now in its 28th season, Consort Chorale is an auditioned group of highly talented singers that come together every summer to present a concert of unusual, not often heard, and extremely beautiful choral music. Led by its renowned and gifted founder, composer and conductor Allan Robert Petker, the concert takes place on Sunday at 7pm on August 13 at First Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo. Along with Petker, this year the concert will feature guest co-conductor David Dickau, another talented and admired composer and conductor in the choral world.
The program includes several compositions by Dr. Dickau, one by Petker, and a varied assortment of music by other current and popular choral conductors, including a provocative piece by a Ukrainian composer (sung in Ukrainian), along with some Bach and Brahms.
Consort Chorale is a very unique group in that it has been together for so many years and in many ways is like a family. The quality of the singers, along with the unusual repertoire they present every year, sets them apart. This in due to the fact that Petker has access to the most exciting and innovative choral composers on the scene today because he is the president of Pavane Publishing, a choral works publishing company which he founded in 1989, and is also the vice president of publications for the Fred Bock Music Company, so the group presents music not often heard anywhere else.
