Sunday, Apr 14, 5 PM, French violinist Stéphan Tran Ngoc performs the virtuosic six solo sonatas composed by Belgian violinist Eugène Ysaÿe (1858-1931), dubbed in his day “The King of the Violin!” Each sonata (they are brief) is dedicated to a virtuoso of his time, including Jacques Thibaud and Fritz Kreisler.
Paris born violinist Stéphan Tran Ngoc received first prize in violin at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris at the age of 15. Further studies were with Itzhak Perlman and Dorothy Delay at The Juilliard School in New York. In 1990 he took the Grand Prix at the prestigious Long-Thibaud International Competition, and since he has performed on the major French concert stages. Mr. Tran Ngoc has taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon and was the head of strings at the London College of Music. He now teaches in Paris. He recorded the Ysaÿe solo sonatas in 1994.
